The DBT Skills Practice Through Art workbook for Kids (8–15) gives children evidence-based coping tools to strengthen their Social and Emotional Literacy (SEL) through art. It introduces Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills in clear, age-appropriate language that the whole family can follow together.
This workbook is part of the ArtBeat DBT Skills Practice Through Art series. It is paired with a companion video course available through ArtBeat membership. A Coaching Guide for parents and trusted adults is available separately, covering the same skills with added guidance for supporting your child through the material.
Introduction to Feelings and How the Brain Works
This section explains big feelings and stress responses in terms we all can understand. We’ll learn about survival mode and why our body reacts the way it does under pressure.
Goal Setting
We will explore personal goals and create a clear plan to work toward them. This section connects your personal values to your daily actions.
Anytime Skills
These skills can be used at any time, whether you are calm or not.
Calm-Only Skills
These skills work best when you are calm. Practising them in calm moments helps you to make the most effective decisions, in the moment and for your future.
Art-Based Activities
Creative activities are built into each section of the workbook. Children use drawing, colouring, and other simple art exercises to explore and apply the skills they are learning. No art experience is needed.
Reflection and Tracking Tools
Simple check-ins and reflection prompts help children and their caregivers notice growth, celebrate progress, and stay connected to the skills between sessions.
This workbook is written for children ages 8–15. It works well as a self-guided tool, and it is also suitable for use alongside a parent, caregiver, counsellor, or trusted adult. The language and activities are designed for this age group, making it accessible for children who are new to therapy concepts.
The companion Coaching Guide gives parents and trusted adults the context and tools they need to support their child through the workbook. Both can be purchased separately from the Workbooks section.
This is a digital download. After purchase, you receive a PDF file you can save, print, or view on any device. Your download link will expire after 6 months.
